The Usefulware Standard
Published by Longshort Labs
The Problem with Modern Software
Over the past decade, everyday desktop software has often become unnecessarily complex. Simple tasks that should take seconds now often require large application downloads, account creation, recurring subscriptions, and uploading personal files to remote servers.
You shouldn't need a cloud account to shrink an image before attaching it to an email. You shouldn’t need a monthly subscription to strip EXIF metadata or batch rename files. And your personal photos and documents shouldn't be processed on remote cloud servers when your modern Mac has incredible on-device compute.
The Four Usefulware Bedrocks
Local On-Device Core
Usefulware applications process files locally on your Mac. We do not upload your media or documents to external servers.
Fair Perpetual Pricing ($5)
No recurring subscriptions. You pay $5 once for a perpetual license for your personal and work machines, with maintenance updates included.
1 License = Up to 3 Macs
A single purchase is valid for up to 3 of your computers with easy self-service machine slot transfer.
Honest Craftsmanship
Native Rust algorithms, compact binaries (~12 MB), sub-100ms startup, zero background telemetry daemons.
